Inver Grove Heights was first settled by Irish and German farmers around 1851, and was named after the Irish town of Inver, and the German town of Grove. The area remained primarily agricultural until after World War II, and was incorporated into the city that it is today in 1965. Now, the area is primarily residential and commercial community that just fewer than 35,000 people call home.
